Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences Nakhon Phanom University
The Faculty of Liberal Arts was originally part of Nakhon Phanom Rajabhat Institute, one of five newly established Rajabhat Institutes. It was declared the Nakhon Phanom Rajabhat Institute in the Royal Gazette, Volume 118, Section 59 G, on July 20, 2001. Nakhon Phanom Rajabhat Institute was a higher education institution under the Rajabhat Institute Council, Ministry of Education, operating under the mission of the Rajabhat Institute Act of 2001, Article 7, which states that the institute's purpose is to provide higher education and professional training, conduct research, provide academic services to society, improve and develop technology, preserve arts and culture, and promote teacher education.
Nakhon Phanom Rajabhat Institute carried out its mission amid global and societal changes, including economic, political, environmental, and technological shifts. These dynamics impacted all parts of society, including the Rajabhat Institute. The challenges of globalization and economic downturns forced the government to manage under budget constraints. Concurrently, the government promoted political and educational reforms, as mandated by the National Education Act of 1999, which restructured state-controlled higher education institutions. Thus, Nakhon Phanom Rajabhat Institute had to focus on improving its quality and potential in education, considering the entire organization as a systematic whole to propel development forward.
With the passing of the Rajabhat University Act in 2004, published in the Royal Gazette, Volume 121, Special Issue 23 G, on June 14, 2004, Nakhon Phanom Rajabhat Institute was elevated to Nakhon Phanom Rajabhat University as of June 15, 2004. Then, on September 2, 2005, various educational institutions in Nakhon Phanom province were merged.
The establishment of Nakhon Phanom University was formalized under the Nakhon Phanom University Act of 2005, published in the Royal Gazette, Volume 122, Section 75 G, on September 1, 2005. This act merged Nakhon Phanom Rajabhat University, Nakhon Phanom Campus of Mahasarakham University, Nakhon Phanom Technical College, Nakhon Phanom Agricultural and Technology College, That Phanom Vocational College, Na Wa Vocational College, and Boromarajonani College of Nursing into Nakhon Phanom University.
